Chapter 5

The nation’s capital

Posted by Temujin on January 11, 2007

I just got back from a busy five nights in Canberra. I managed to catch up with lots of people — including the most magnanimous Adrian & Margaret… my most interesting friends* Duncan & Kimbra… Marcia, Matt, Brent, Tingsong, Tom, DaveL, DaveM, Andrew, Terje, Frank, Tex, Sacha, Major Mick & the other Michael. Phew!

I spent the first three nights with Adrian & Margaret and the next two nights with Duncan & Kimbra. As it turns out, hosting me isn’t the only thing these couples have in common — both are expecting their first child at the same time and both went to Cambodia for their honeymoons. Good to finally have some of my best friends meet each other.

On Saturday 6 Jan I paid $50 to go to Summernats (annual Canberra car show) and help the LDP to sign up new members. The day was a bit of fun and an outstanding success and the party now has more than enough members for federal registration. Sunday was the LDP federal conference which saw the constitution formally accepted and the national executive elected.

On Monday (8 Jan) I finally had the chance to inspect my Canberra house and meet my tennants. After two dodgy tennants previously who ripped me off and left the place a mess I finally have some good tennants who are not only taking good care of the place, but also offering to paint and improve the house on their own dime. The rest of my time was taken up catching up with people and watching the first 20 episodes of ‘West Wing’ before I flew home on Tuesday.
